Anti-War
The Antiwar movement has been a part of our nation's history since 1964 during the Vietnam War and even more in earlier years. This movement was a way for people to protest their distaste towards war and how it does more harm than good in the end. Even though there is so much bloodshed and throughout history there have been millions of lives lost whether they were actually on the field or not, yet the idea of Antiwar is still seen as a odd movement.
Another instance of the Antiwar movement post the Vietnam War, was in 2007 when tens of thousands of Americans gathered together at the Pentagon on the 4 year anniversary of the U.S. war against Iraq that started in 2003 due to the devastating events that took place on September 11, 2001. People carried black and yellow signs that read "U.S. out of Iraq now!". People were horrified that their loved ones/friends were being deployed to fight in this awful war that was not justified at all. Even active duty sailors who had served in Iraq were speaking out about the urgency of stopping the war.
There was some change made back when the anti-war movement was first created, but throughout the years it has unfortunately not made as big of an impact as you would think. There have been no anti-war movements in a little bit more than a decade, and even if there were any since3 2007, there was not nearly enough media coverage about it. That is quite a sad realization because if people were actively coming together more often to fight for less violent conflicts, there wouldn't necessarily be an immediate change BUT at least it would start more of a conversation. This is also why I feel that there are no anti-war websites created by the government.
Because there are minimal conversations both in person and online regarding the anti-war movement in today's day and age, no one has really thought about it which leads the government to think that it is not something that citizens advocate for as much as other issues. Not to bring down any of the other movements that have taken place in the last decade and more, but the anti-war movement also needs some light shined on it. There needs to be more conversation about this in order to get more prominent figures to help spread the message of the anti-war movement in order for there to be real change. Together, communities need to come together and start planning protests like other more well-known protests and start to bring this topic back into the spotlight. By doing this, we can help both people all around the world as well as the government understand how important it is to not engage in conflict in a violent manner.
